I just finished a 30 day blog challenge with my DIY Divorce in Florida blog.  This particular challenge involved writing at least 30 posts with a minimum of 150 words in 30 days. Many people have been asking how I can come up with so many posts when I’ve been writing the blog for more than2 years.

Here are my 3 sources of unending content for my blogs:

  1. Blogging calendar – each year I make a plan with topics for each month. Then I start adding possible post topics and flesh it out.
  2. Read other blogs – not so much to rehash their topics, but to generate ideas related to what others are writing about or to synthesize overall trends or compare different schools of thought.
  3. Blog analytics – just look at what your readers are searching for and start writing. This is a rich source of material for a more mature blog because the readers are honing in on narrower inquiries as time goes on.

The calendar keeps me on track in an overall fashion. Other blogs generate ideas and my readers always supply a different variation to what I’ve written about previously. Week after week I use these 3 sources of blog content to keep writing posts.

A blog is the #1 way to get your practice found online. You can build a web presence for your practice at little cost when you have a well-considered content strategy for your blog. But aside from the low cost, let's talk about why you must have a blog as a solo professional.

First, each post you create is a web page. By using some simple techniques and targeted keywords, you can easily create many blog post webpages from material you already have in your files. The number of pages you author increases your online visibility.

Second, when you've authored numerous posts (each one a "page") and other blogs start linking to you, you become a recognized expert in the eyes of the search engines.

Third, people now rely on the Internet to find professionals. The days of the phone book are gone. Now people let their fingers do the walking over the keyboard to find local services. And a blog is a great way to stand out from your competitors and take advantage of local Internet searches.
